Background
Machine Learning based service design
Image/Audio recognition can be used to deliver our services. The system can identify commonalities and match them to faces and audio using a database of people's information.
A machine learning algorithm extracts structured Information from unstructured data. Our platform will generate the AI and deliver our services directly via the mobile platform.

Objective: How might we connect to the future?
China will run out of cemetery space within the next 10 years
We aim to develop powerful new ways for people to interact with their deceased relatives and gradually change their perception of death. (Data retrieved Feb, 2021)
Design Process
Step 1: Understand
Learn about the pain points and our audience, who is out of budget for the burial of their family
Step 2 Research
Gather data and form questions based on reliable sources
Step3 : Analyze
Define the issues as the service we will provide
Conduct UX testing based on early-stage wireframes
Business analyze
Step 4: Design
Build solutions based on data and previous conclusions
Conduct a focus group study to log user feedback based on prototypes
Step 5 : Evaluate
Re-evaluate the project and solution based on user feedback
Re-visite the solution proposed
Solutions
Chat service
Users can communicate with the deceased relatives by Text, or audio or use virtual reality tools.
Purchase products
Users can purchase gift items and change the user settings/status on platform
Family share
Users are able to invite families to join and share the purchased services
Business Model
UX Design
Iteration 1
In the first iteration, our team focused on designing the foundation for the pillar feature - chat services.
We built the wires based on competitive analysis with existing products in the market.
Outstanding Challenges:
We are not sure if this interaction design is a comfortable design for our users.
UX Design
Iteration 2
In the second iteration, our team focused on improving the basic functions - sign up, chat service, pay system, and file upload. We also did user research based on the wires we created, and we received feedback about not using the file management system because it is hard to use.
Outstanding Challenges:
Are we going to keep the same feature or we improve it? (memory files)
UX Design
Iteration 3
In the third iteration, our team focused on finalizing the 3 key functions - not only completed the visual design but also built pages with friendly remainders for senior users.
Outstanding Challenges:
We are not sure if VR would be a radical design solution, considering there will be a variety of seniors using this platform.
UX Design
Iteration 4
In the final iteration, we improved our main page prototype to increase text size and logo visibility for senior users. Based on the feedback we received from user research, the use of icons could be confusing, yet users prefer bigger names on the screen.
Project Budget Forecast - 3 years
Summary
Keep :
- Our design solutions, such as chat services, making phone calls, visiting, and inviting family members to communicate with the AI replica received positive feedback.
- Usability testing has shown a positive effect, with the app becoming increasingly open to natural burial practices and improvements being made continuously to meet user feedback on enhanced functionality.
Change:
-VR could be a powerful tool, but we are also concerned if this could be a too radical design solution for seniors. Also considering this is a project we aim to collaborate with authorities, we might need to redesign the way we store data, and business models in the future.
